What is the Golden Ring: The Golden Ring of Russia is one of the oldest Russian routes. Alexandrov, Pereyaslavl, Bogolyubovo, Ples, Vladimir, Rostov, Gorokhovets, Sergiyev Posad, Gus-Khrustalni, Suzdal, Kostroma, Yuryev-Polski, Murom, Yaroslavl are the cities of the Golden Ring.

Almost all cities in Russia were "closed" in the times of the USSR. Today in Siberia there are still three "atomic" cities, separated from the rest of the world with barbwires. These are Krasnoyarsk-26 (the new name is Zheleznogorsk), Krasnoyarsk-45 (Zelenogorsk) and Tomsk-7 (Seversk).

The Volga River the longest river in Russia. A lot of beautiful cities are on the banks of the Volga River, and my native town, Saratov, is among them. The city is situated on the right bank of the Volga river in a wide hollow surrounded by hills on three sides. Saratov is the regional center, a big junction of the Volga region railway system. In 1995 the population was about 900,000 people.
