Foundation of the city.
The city on Oka - Moscow was first mentioned on the pages of Ipat'yevsky chronicle in the year 1147 when the Jury Dolgoruky, Suzdal Prince, met his ally there - Svyatoslav Olgovich, Novgorod-Seversk, Prince.
Svyatoslav was in Smolensk region when messengers from Jury Dolgoruky came to him with the words: "… Come to me, brother, to Moscow".
The princes met in city on Oka - Moscow, which by that time had already existed as a settlement with this name. It was on Friday, April 4, in 6655 (1147). On the next day there was a great dinner where the princes exchanged gifts and agreed on mutual help.

For the Kiev Russia the territory of Moscow region inhabited in X-IX centuries with Vyatichi tribes considered as very distant and difficult of access. The road to Rostov and Suzdal, the ancient Russian city on Oka and Volga rivers went round Smolensk and the river head of the Volga.
Prince Gleb Vladimirovich went this road from Ryazan' to Kiev in the beginning of the IX century. Between Ryazan' and Chernigov there were dense forests which were insuperable obstacle. For the people in Kiev the whole country to the north of Russia of these forests was "over-forest" land, the way to which was difficult and dangerous.
It is not by chance that Vladimir Monomakh considered his successful journey to Rostov through these lands one of the greatest events in his life. When he was Prince of Chernigov he made two journeys to the north in winter. After that the majority of this territory became part of the Chernigov Kingdom.
